March 9th: Write Handwritten Messages to my Nieces and Nephews

Today is my last day in Maui. I know, how depressing. 😬

I hope to carry the positivity and excitement that this trip has brought me through to daily life in Denver and that I can continue on with my list. Sometimes vacations can make it even harder to return back to normal life. Only time will tell.

Today I crossed off a great one on my list. A couple years ago when I added this item to my list, as with many items, I didn’t really know what it would actually be.

But today that question was answered. I wrote postcards to each of my nieces and nephews.

I hope they enjoy a little tidbit from my trip and know that I was thinking about them!

January 7th: Teach Bella to Sit

Having a new puppy in the house in no cake walk. It has been trying. Especially with an older dog already in the house who expects all the love and attention.

But Bella is great! And so smart.

Today (and over the past few days) I taught her to sit! She learned it so quickly that I feel she must have been in a decent home to begin with.

Her and Mia are still having some hiccups but I hope to train them both out of it quickly.

Any pointers for helping an old dog transition into having a puppy around that wants to play all the time are greatly appreciated!

January 7th: Take Amtrak to Glenwood Springs

This is such a great experience and another one that I actually crossed off last year but never input, so on another day when I am super busy with work I am crossing this off the list.

Anyone that lives in Denver, I highly recommend this. I went with a wedding party. It was a BLAST!

Here are some great pictures from the train! I would love to go again this winter or fall to see a different scene.

February 9th: See Live Jazz

This was actually a spur of the moment happening but a great night. I usually close the bar on Friday nights but I was just feeling absolutely drained tonight.

I asked the other bartender if they would close for me and when they agreed I told myself I would go right home and rest for the night.

I should have known enough that I would not do that.

A few friends showed up that I had not really seen in a while just as I was about to leave. They wanted to check out a show in the neighborhood. So we went down to check it out but sadly, it was sold out.

We had all heard of this little jazz club around the corner, Nocturne, and decided to check it out.

It was a really great time. A very chill setting, we had some great appetizers and a few great drinks. A place I would definitely visit again but a time that can not be duplicated!

January 16th: Have Dinner with a Group of Friends

I wish I could say this was a great experience. It definitely started out as a fun night. And was not even the thing I planned on marking off my list today but a group of friends I used to work with got together for dinner tonight. Only I got sick… I do not know if it is the flu or what but not enjoyable and I probably was not the best company. It was good to see the friends though. Might have to do this one again when I feel better!

January 11th: Discover a New Game App

I know this seems a little silly. But I have actual good reason for this simple task.

There have actually been studies and articles published (like this one Playing Mario Bros) that say playing video games, cognitive games or just keeping your mind active more often then say, mindlessly watching tv can help prevent dementia.

Because I have a history of dementia in my family I think early in life it is important to do anything I can to help prevent or at least put off longer getting the disease.

So I downloaded this “Trivia Crack” game and will start playing. Besides the good side affects it might have on my brain, maybe I’ll actually learn something every once in a while.

January 9th: Read History of My Birthday

This is one of those things that is simple but can end up meaning a lot or at least having some sort of simple effect.

I found a website called On This Day.

I think I thing I lived the most was Famous People Born on August 26th. I have the same birthday as Mother Teresa! What an honor.

Then there is specific events that happened on the day. How cool is it that I was on born on Women’s Equality Day!

So cool! I encourage everyone to check out the site. Learn a little about your day of birth. Please share some interesting points you find.

August 26th: Eat at Vesta

So I came across this restaurant a couple years ago in downtown Denver called Vesta. I do not remember why but it really caught my eye and I have been meaning to try it ever since.

Today is my birthday, so no better day than today. Holy goodness, it was so delicious!

Six friends came along. They had a 38 ounce ribeye that sounded just amazing! So three of us shared it.

The idea of the restaurant is that it’s a “dipping” restaurant so most of the dishes come with lots of sauces and you dip everything. The steak was great. We also got dipping sauces with pita bread, a huge charcuterie plate and amazing dessert.

The best part though, my friends spending a great birthday with me and enjoying great food.

July 16th: Host a BBQ

What a fun thing to do! Hosting a BBQ is quite the endeavor but such a fun time.

Owning my own house has been such an adventure and has enabled me to do so many things.

I decided to have a house party this weekend. My friend, Jared, bought me a grill as a housewarming gift, so no better time than to host a BBQ.

So many great friends turned out and we had a fabulous time. I think there will be many more of these to come at this house.

We had cornhole, a keg, some tired pups and a great group of friends!

Next time I will step it up and make some great BBQ!

June 5th: Watch a Disney Movie

This mini-vacation has been filled with kids stuff… maybe that’s why I was doing swing on swingset, skip, no cursing leading up to the week. I just have been feeling my inner child bursting to get out.

So I guess it is only appropriate that I check off Watch a Disney Movie this week too.

It is funny, when I was making the list of 365 things back in December I put certain things down and had a certain expectation of what the experience would be when I got to it. Very rarely was I right.

The expectation for this was on a sick day, or a cold winter day, I would be stuck inside and in the comfort of my room I would watch a classic Disney movie that I hadn’t seen in a while.

Instead, and to my delight, I watched a Disney movie I had never seen, with my Indianapolis nieces, having a movie night filled with popcorn, candy, ice cream and sleepover.

It was a fun night and hopefully a memory both I and they will cherish.

June 4th: Go Zip Lining

Oh boy, it has been a great weekend.

Time away from work, time with my sister and time with my nieces. Plus, super fun activities.

Today, my sister and I went zip lining in Anderson, Indiana. It was a lot of fun and we got to do the longest, fastest zip line in the Midwest!

Bonus: it just so happens that all the things just happen to be things on my list!

June 3rd: Attend a Lantern Festival

So this happened! And it was so great.

So as you might know I am on my mini vacation in Indianapolis seeing my sister and nieces this weekend. It just so happened that my sister bought tickets for this event, long ago.

I tried to get tickets to the Denver one but it was WAY sold out.

So how incredibly lucky am I that I was here this weekend, it was happening this weekend, and my sister had tickets!

It was absolutely stunning watching all the lanterns go up in the sky. We got two- my nieces wrote wishes on them, both pretty profound and selfless-

First, health and happiness for our whole family…

And second, food and medicine for ALL the people in the world that cannot get it or afford it.

Pretty amazing! And a pretty amazing night.

I have two days left here and cannot wait for more adventures. I wish I could travel everyday of my life…
