January 2nd: Get a New Plant

Three years ago I started this idea that I could try new things all year. One for everyday. It is harder than you might think. Some things simple, some things hard.

It’s hard to believe that in 2017 I was 32 years old and had never had a live plant in my apartment or house. So on my list was “Buy a Houseplant”. Three years later this little guy lives in my office:

Since then I have added SIX more lovely plants to my household. Today I added this lovely little lady to the mix:

It says she loves sunlight and water so she will sit in my office basking in the sun!

It’s amazing how much a little plant can brighten your day. Sometimes it can be hard… this plant saw better days:

But I recently pruned it and moved it to a different location in the house. I was excited on New Year’s Day to see the new leaf, caught in the sun in this photo, sprout!

Since I got a new plant today I also thought I should give my other ones some room to grow so I put these smaller plants in bigger pots with fresh soil!

Hope they will continue to thrive like these two which I can barely keep from getting bigger and bigger.

The only one I am having problems with is this guy. It has new growth but all the existing, longer stems keep dying. Just can’t figure out what she wants? If anyone knows how to care for this plant suggestions would be welcomed and appreciated:

Overall, just having one plant in the house brightens my day. If I keep going at this pace my house will soon be a greenhouse and I’ll have to buy a place for me and my dogs to live to give the plants some room… 😂❤️🌱

May 20th: Create a Herb Garden

So yesterday was truly hitting two birds with one stone! I have been planning on knocking this one off the list for sometime and when I saw the Pinterest task and came across the DIY Mason Jar Herbs I knew that was the one for me.

So definitely check out my post from yesterday!

I had so much fun creating an herb garden. I only have three right now but plan on making and planting a bunch more.

May 19th: Do a Craft from Pinterest

I have been looking forward to getting crafty this year and was super excited to find this little project: Mason Jar Herb Garden. There are a ton of different ways to do it, and a ton of different examples on Pinterest… I kind of just looked at a lot and did it my own way.

I’m really happy with how it turned out! Now let’s just hope I get some greens!

I bought mason jars at the grocery store! 12 for just $8.99!

I had some hemp left over from other projects. So took a hot glue gun and got to work.

Then I took a sharpie (blue was all I had) and wrote the names of the herbs I was planting on the jars.

Add some river rocks and potting soil, the seeds, and then another thin layer of soil.

I didn’t really like that the names didn’t pop off the jar once the soil was in so I went out and got an acrylic paint sharpie in white. It blended with the sharpie color (which I didn’t expect but really love!)

And viola! I have some herbs hanging!

Happy gardener!

April 9th: Buy a Houseplant

So I have been watering my friend Kelly’s plants or the last few weeks and it inspired me to check this thing off my list. It really is nice having plants around the house, so this might not be the only one I get! 🌱

So I googled places to buy house plants and after I went to three places that ended up being grow from seed and professional landscaping places, rather than just a place to buy plants, I headed to Home Depot. They actually have quite a nice selection.

I ended up getting a Pothos Plant. I found this information about it, Pothos Plants, and the upside is, it seems pretty hard to kill. 😂

I got a cut little pot and it fits perfectly on the little table near my bed.

If (when) I get more it will definitely some of the ones on this list – House plants to Improve Your Health.
