January 9th: Shoot Apple Cider Vinegar Every Morning for a Month

Let’s see. I already have a few extended challenges going on.

Starting on the 5th I stated I would come home every day after work directly to spend time with the pups. I have had one hiccup but it was because Bella was a work with me and everyone wanted to meet her. But no more excuses. Directly home!

On the 6th I said I would eat breakfast everyday for a week. So far, so good! I have been eating breakfast everyday. Even woke up to make those delicious pumpkin muffins yesterday. I notice I am more hungry around noon than I normally would be. Everyone keeps telling me it is because my metabolism has been kick started.

So today, the 9th. I am starting to do a shot of apple cider vinegar every morning.

I have always heard there are many benefits to doing this and found this informative chart on Very Well Health.

So for the next month I will be shooting some of this every morning. I have tried it in shot form and adding it to a glass of water. I feel it is easier to just shoot it than drink a whole glasses of it diluted.

Here’s to keeping up!

January 8th: Bake Homemade Bread

Anyone that knows me personally knows I have been on a major baking kick.

I got a BEAUTIFUL Kitchenaid Standing Mixer on Black Friday this year and have been obsessed with baking. For Christmas I made over 10 dozen cookies, a cheesecake and doggie treats for all my doggie parent friends.

Today I made some bread. I did not make it from scratch but got a premix for pumpkin bread. I decided to batch it as muffins instead of bread so it is more easily shareable with friends.

So I’m headed out to work for the day. Ate some pumpkin bread for breakfast to check off my breakfast for the day, walked Bella (who is getting even better at sitting) and even took some time to clean up the yard a bit this morning which will soon be a big task on my list to check off.

This year is moving quickly, just trying to keep up with something everyday!

January 7th: Teach Bella to Sit

Having a new puppy in the house in no cake walk. It has been trying. Especially with an older dog already in the house who expects all the love and attention.

But Bella is great! And so smart.

Today (and over the past few days) I taught her to sit! She learned it so quickly that I feel she must have been in a decent home to begin with.

Her and Mia are still having some hiccups but I hope to train them both out of it quickly.

Any pointers for helping an old dog transition into having a puppy around that wants to play all the time are greatly appreciated!

January 6th: Eat Breakfast Every Morning for a Week

I know it is something most people do on a regular basis but being a bartender often tends to lead to late nights and late mornings.

The new pup in the house is changing up the daily routine. I am waking up earlier so we can go on walks. I thought this was a perfect time to check this one off the list and hopefully start a new trend to last the year.

I made an egg sandwich this morning.

Fast and delicious. I probably need to go out and buy some other breakfast foods though.

I think, however, this will lead to more afternoon naps. But I’m ok with that because Bella is ready for naps too.

Best of luck to all of you out there still working on resolutions.

January 5th: Go Home Directly After Clocking Out for a Month

Yesterday was a big day! I checked off a major thing- I got a dog! A puppy to be completely accurate. She’s doing great. The next few months will be challenging as she accumulates to the house, understands my other dog Mia and learns all her training.

I’m excited for the adventure and decided this is a perfect item to kick off today.

I am a bartender so there are many days when I get off and sit down to have a drink with friends after shift. With a new pup in the house I know how important it is to be home with her as much as possible.

So, even though I am off work today, I will kick this off starting today and leave work directly after clocking out until February 5th… and of course I will try and continue that into the year… but baby steps!

Plus, it will give me extra time to start on that reading list I created on the 1st.

P.S. I used the cute picture of my sweet new pup, Bella, just to draw you in.

January 3rd: Shop at Trader Joe’s

It is hard to believe that I never shopped here considering I lived in NYC for 5 years and it is ALL THE RAGE there. For some reason I always thought it was expensive… it is not!

I got essential: bread, milk, cheese, eggs, etc. But also got some microwaveable meals that look delicious! I spent at least half of what I would normally spend.

This item off the list might just change my year; the way way I spend money, the way I shop and the way I cook/bake.

January 2nd: Get a New Plant

Three years ago I started this idea that I could try new things all year. One for everyday. It is harder than you might think. Some things simple, some things hard.

It’s hard to believe that in 2017 I was 32 years old and had never had a live plant in my apartment or house. So on my list was “Buy a Houseplant”. Three years later this little guy lives in my office:

Since then I have added SIX more lovely plants to my household. Today I added this lovely little lady to the mix:

It says she loves sunlight and water so she will sit in my office basking in the sun!

It’s amazing how much a little plant can brighten your day. Sometimes it can be hard… this plant saw better days:

But I recently pruned it and moved it to a different location in the house. I was excited on New Year’s Day to see the new leaf, caught in the sun in this photo, sprout!

Since I got a new plant today I also thought I should give my other ones some room to grow so I put these smaller plants in bigger pots with fresh soil!

Hope they will continue to thrive like these two which I can barely keep from getting bigger and bigger.

The only one I am having problems with is this guy. It has new growth but all the existing, longer stems keep dying. Just can’t figure out what she wants? If anyone knows how to care for this plant suggestions would be welcomed and appreciated:

Overall, just having one plant in the house brightens my day. If I keep going at this pace my house will soon be a greenhouse and I’ll have to buy a place for me and my dogs to live to give the plants some room… 😂❤️🌱

This is 2020! January 1st: Get Book Recommendations

Here we go! Excited to kick off 2020 and make a solid attempt to complete my list. Since 2017 I’ve made a list and attempted to complete as many of the 365 things. Once completed I cross them off. As the new year approaches I add new things so my list is full. Sometimes I add back in things I completed because of the way it enriched my life. This being one of them. I love asking for book recommendations and try hard to read at least some of them. So here’s ten that I got today!

  • 48 Laws of Power
  • Talking to Strangers
  • The Rituals
  • Love is a Mixtape
  • Black Hearts
  • The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fck
  • The Girl Who Drank the Moon
  • Flowers in the Attic Series
  • The Hearts Invisible Furies
  • Where the Crawdads Sing

I already ordered “The Girl Who Drank the Moon” and “The Rituals”! Excited to get them and begin this adventure!

2019

I’ve been doing this for 3 years now and never completed a full year. Even when I don’t complete a year it feels good to check things off a list that I probably never would have never done had I not forced myself to do them.

Hindsight is 20/20…

Going to complete this year’s list!! Do one with me. Just think of 365 things you want to do this year and make the best of it! Even if you just do 30 of them, it’s more than you would have done without the list.

January 22nd: Make Homemade Cleaners

Back to some essential oil fun! And back to saving the earth. As the year goes on you will begin to see my efforts to cut out toxic chemicals, unneeded products and items that clutter my life. January has kicked off pretty nicely.

1. I have been spending the month purging items from my house, one day at a time. My January 1st item was purge one item from my house a day. I have fallen a little behind on this but plan on spending all morning tomorrow doing a large purge… even the small purges I have made have already made a difference.

2. January 15th challenged me to not use any plastic waste for a week. It has been challenging, mainly because when you get togo food or buy things at the store most things automatically come with unneeded plastic products. I am working on continuing this and think I can make it through the whole year concentrating on it. Even if I just minimize what I am using, that has to have an effect.

3. So back to the essential oils. January 8th was all about making my own essential oil blend. This was so I could produce something that I would use as a pain reliever without using toxic or unknown ingredient pills.

Today, I make my own house cleaner, and man, there are a TON of recipes out there and every variety of cleaner you can think of.

There is a great website One Essential Community that has a great list of different cleaners with a minimal, clean ingredients. Eventually, I would like to make them all – 8 DIY Cleaning Recipes with Lemon – but today I am just starting with the:

Mold & Mildew Cleaner

To make: to a spray bottle add 1 cup white vinegar, 15 drops lemon essential oil, and 15 drops melaleuca essential oil.

To use: shake to combine, spray on surface to be cleaned, wipe with microfiber cloth, spray again with cleaner and allow to air dry.

AND

All-Purpose Cleaner (great for counters)

To make: to a spray bottle add ¼ cup white vinegar, 1 ½ cups distilled water, and 25 drops lemon essential oil.

To use: shake to combine, spray on surface, and wipe clean

So here are the ingredients:

Here’s the All Purpose Cleaner:

And the Mold & Mildew:

I also found this other great site, Back Door Survival, that had a list of the 8 Best Essential Oils for Disinfecting. I will have to use some of these the next time I make some.

Happy clean, cleaning!

January 21st: Make New Business Cards

About a month ago I decided I wanted to start my own company. It has been a process that has been in my mind for over a decade. Over the past ten years I have had jobs but always tried to keep my photography and graphic design going. Recently I have put myself out there more for graphic jobs and have snagged a few. I need these cards to push that forward. People ask me often about services and I always write my name and number down… always seemed unprofessional.

So I made these today (super simple design from VistaPrint) and ordered them!

I should have them in hand by the beginning of February. I cannot wait to start passing them out and hopefully drum up more business. Eventually, I will make my design but just wanted to keep it simple for now.
