April 30th: List 10 Material Things I am Thankful For…

…and get rid of 10 things not on the list.

I know that life is not all about material things but we live in a society where they do start to consume us a little. Today, I am just doing a bit more decluttering. This is forcing me to think about the things I truly use and enjoy and purge some of the things that just really are not necessary. Like with my month of purging an item a day, this feels super satisfying and cleansing of both space and mind.

1. My computer.

2. My car.

3. My (NEW) plants. 😁🌿

4. My books.

5. My golf clubs.

6. My art (my own and other art I have collected).

7. My bed.

8. My art supplies.

9. My race medals.

10. My collection of cameras.

So… those things I appreciate the most, and would hate to live without. (Especially my bed 😂). So now, I need to toss some stuff.

April 21st: Call a Distant Friend

I think I have talked about this before, but today I revisit it. I have, by choice, moved around quite a bit. This makes for an exciting life, and I love living in and exploring new places. But the down side is my closest friends and the great friends I make along the way, I often lose contact with or don’t talk to as often as I would like.

So today I made an effort to call a friend I have not talked to in a while.

It was so refreshing! I miss my friends, especially my best ones. It reminded me how great it is to  talk to people that know me and have known me through ups and downs, tragedies and triumphs, and know what I stand for and where I come from without question.

I ABSOLUTELY NEED TO CALL MY DISTANT FRIENDS MORE OFTEN.

April 20th: Eat an Ice Cream Cone

I am not a huge dessert person. Don’t get me wrong… I LOVE dessert. I just don’t eat it often because well, you know, weight gain and all that.

Anyway, today was a day to just have an ice cream cone. So I headed down to this little ice cream shop in Washington Park area of Denver called Bonnie Brad Ice Cream. It has been around for 30 years. They make all the ice cream in house! It is so good!

I got my favorite… mint chocolate chip in a chocolate waffle cone. OH MY! It was so delicious.

Some days it is just the small things we can do for ourselves that make the day and life better.

April 19th: Lay in a Hammock

Spring is here! And the year is just going to get better and better as tasks on my list get more relaxing, more enjoyable, and more outdoorsy!

Today I got home from work just before 6pm. I took my book that I am trying to get through, The Red Tent (which is getting better by the page!) and went out back to lay in the hammock for a while.

It was gorgeous. 70 degrees, blue skies, and a nice breeze.

Mia ran around the backyard and only tried to join me in the hammock once… but was pretty terrified by the hammocks movement.

I got to spend almost an entire hour reading before it got windy and there was a chill in the air. Clouds started to appear and were rather dark so I ventured back inside.

April 18th: Buy a Friend a Balloon for Their Birthday

Sometimes the simplest things can go a long way. I know that from personal experience and I think most people feel the same way.

So this has been on my list, obviously, all year but I realized it was my friend Sara’s birthday I thought there was no better day than today to do this one.

I love how much she appreciated it… 😀❤

March 5th: Eat Lunch Outside

It is unbelievable how nice it has been outside in Colorado. After the extremely nice February I really thought we were going to have an extreme and snowy March.

So far, that has not been the case.

So yesterday after being at work for a while, I brought home lunch with me. I sat on the back patio at home and ate lunch outside. Very pleasant and something on the list I definitely felt I would not check off until later in the year. Now I will just have to do it more often!

March 2nd: List Ten Things I am Grateful For

1. My parents and siblings. They are supportive and loving even if I do not see them for a long time.

2. My dog. It truly is like having an extra best friend!

3. The ability to work for my dreams. Particularly, pursuing my artistic endeavors. Some people never have the chance in their life to actually do what they love. I am still working hard to make it my only career, and hope and think one day it will be.

4. My friends. Growing up I always had a lot of friends and through my early twenties I always felt it was important to surround myself with lots of people. I am moving away from that as I realize how importang it is to have people in my life that truly care and matter to me. So I am truly happy to my close friends that are always there, and I will always be there for.

5. My education. I might be paying hundreds of dollars a month to get my student loan paid off, but I am still grateful I had the opportunity to get an education, and more importantly the one I wanted to get.

6. The state of Colorado. I moved around a few times and always got this itch to leave places after a while, but I have been in Colorafo for over five years now and feel home. I love the weather. I love the city. I love the sports to see and to play. I just love it.

7. My health. I battled cancer a few years ago and am so thankful and blessed to be out on the other side healthy.

8. The great outdoors. Between National Parks, city parks, and everything in between how could you not be grateful for the great outdoors. I love to hike, camp, explore historic places… etc.

9. Sleep. Of course this is something we all take for granted, but a good sleep is key to a happy heart and life. I do not sleep well often because of random arm pain but when I do it is the best thing to happen to me all week!

10. Physical health. Particularly, the ability to run in races, go swimming, go hiking, work at a bar and move quickly, the list could go on with all the physically challenging things I am capable of and for that I am grateful.
