March 16th: Do a Favor for a Friend

Sometimes I get so caught up in the day to day that I forget to do things for others. Sometimes it becomes overwhelming the amount of things I need to get done. But truly doing good things or favors for others can be good for your soul.

I found this article, The Power of Good Deeds, and believe that is the case.

So over the next month I am going to be stopping by a friends house to Water her plants. She is going out of town for about a month, so I will jut be stopping in to help out while she is gone. It is not a grand gesture but just a simple thing to help out.

March 12th: Drink Champagne

Most people, and I would include myself in this category, only drink champagne on special occasions. So to drink it just to have a drink is kind of a treat.

So I drank some champagne. It felt fancy and out of the ordinary. Even though I was definitely no where fancy or feeling fancy. Just a small thing to make an ordinary day seem a little bit extraordinary.

March 11th: Discover a New Artist

Well, I have slightly fallen behind on my blog posting… so just trying to catch up.

One thing I added to the list for a very specific purpose was Discover a New Artist. This can mean so many things to different people… discover new music, new paintings, new famous works… but for me it is about discovering new local, small business artists that are trying to make a life from their art.

I have had various jobs in the art world. I have a degree in Photography and in Arts Management but far too often it falls by the wayside and I concentrate too much of my life on making money than making art. I am positive many artists fall victim to this and that is why I find it so important to support artists.

Anyway, enough of the rant… I have discussed this before, particularly with my post earlier in the year when I answered questions that will free your mind. Because as awesome as that list of questions was and truly did open up my mind, it also showed me how I close myself off to things that I truly want. But there I go again, continuing the rant…

So let me just get to the point at hand- discovering a new artist.

I found this local photographer, Wilsonapxe Photography. I am stunned by the night images and just blown away by the colors.

Interestingly I just stumbled upon this photography but when I got into the page I discovered that Westword Magazine just named the photographer one of the top “instagrammers” in Denver. Now I have to follow! Maybe you should too… Instagram handle, @wilsonaxpe !

March 6th: Listen to Jazz

So this should be a daily habit now that I have a record player… but I just do not have enough good stuff. I have spent the last hour or so doing some graphic work and marketing stuff… and have just been walking to the living room to flip my Miles Davis record over, again and again.

There is something relaxing about jazz, even in the moments when things are heightened and almost edgy. There still seems to be a sense of relaxation from song to song. Anyway, here is my task for the day: Listen to Jazz and that is what I am doing… and probably will be doing for the next few hours before I hit the pillow and get some zzz’s.

I am still in my 30 days of purging items and I would say it is going rather well. I keep getting to different areas of my room, or closet, or kitchen space… and kind of just throwing everything away. It feels good to minimalize.

Bonus for today: I decided to grab two bags out of my closet, see what was in them, and throw out what I could. I only ended up throwing away one old box of unused black and white photographic paper… I am pretty sure by now it has become exposed and would not print anything anyway. But I found multiple boxes of my old darkroom prints from college. I did not go through them yet, but I will, and am excited to see what is in there. I will probably throw a bunch away. But maybe I will put others up on my Facebook or Instagram and try to sell them! I think there is some good stuff in there!

March 4th: Discover a New Brewery

So I am back to drinking this month… 😬 and decided to check this one off the list! And what a great and eventful one to do. It was kind of accidental…

A good friend of mine, who I have not seen in THREE years but lives in Denver is in a bluegrass band, and they are awesome! They always invite me out to see them but it is always on Saturday nights. But today I decided to take the night off to see them. They were playing at Seedstock Brewery.

The beer is great. The music is great. No complaints. What a lovely evening.

February 26th: Purge One Item Everyday for 30 Days

As I come to the end of my month of no drinking (I did ok, not great… I drank two of my none cheat days 😬) I figured I should start another longer task to accomplish and make sure I DO IT!

So for the next 30 days I will be purging at least one item from my material and/or emotional being in the hopes to declutter.

Today I threw out two pairs of boots that I just have not been able to let go of but are not worth the effort.

Wish me luck.

February 23rd: Listen to “Stuff You Should Know” Podcast

This was something that as I was making my list and researching other things that people who made “to-do lists” had done I came across. I do not know what I was expecting… I actually have never listened to a Podcast before… I know, I know, what century was I born in? Evidently, I am just a little late to this Podcast Party. But I have to say I found it quite interesting. I really had no idea where to start, because “Stuff You Should Know” has so many topics, nearly none of them having anything to do with each other. So I kind of just winged it and chose one.

I listened to “How Continents Got Their Names”. Now I am listening to “Mermaids: Not a Real Thing”. It is interesting but I listened to the first one as I was doing some graphic design work and now I am listening to the new one as I type this. I just do not know if Β am really a podcast person, I do not feel like I can just sit and listen to it without doing something else. Ugh, the plight of our generation stems from our constant need to multitask and not concentrating fully on something, with intent.

Which, is an interesting topic all to itself… and something I actually studied when I was working on my masters. Here are some interesting facts or ideas about theΒ Problems with Multitasking. OrΒ The True Cost of Multitasking. There are many articles out there about it- just google “why multitasking is bad”.

Interestingly, this task today has gotten very off task. Anyway, if you have interest and can keep your interest peaked a little bit better than me this is a podcast that came greatly recommended by a lot of research.

Stuff You Should Know

I think the great thing about this podcast is the breadth of information is so diverse. Almost every episode is a completely new topic that has nothing to do with anything that they have ever talked about before. It must be truly interesting to have their jobs.
