March 11th: Discover a New Artist

Well, I have slightly fallen behind on my blog posting… so just trying to catch up.

One thing I added to the list for a very specific purpose was Discover a New Artist. This can mean so many things to different people… discover new music, new paintings, new famous works… but for me it is about discovering new local, small business artists that are trying to make a life from their art.

I have had various jobs in the art world. I have a degree in Photography and in Arts Management but far too often it falls by the wayside and I concentrate too much of my life on making money than making art. I am positive many artists fall victim to this and that is why I find it so important to support artists.

Anyway, enough of the rant… I have discussed this before, particularly with my post earlier in the year when I answered questions that will free your mind. Because as awesome as that list of questions was and truly did open up my mind, it also showed me how I close myself off to things that I truly want. But there I go again, continuing the rant…

So let me just get to the point at hand- discovering a new artist.

I found this local photographer, Wilsonapxe Photography. I am stunned by the night images and just blown away by the colors.

Interestingly I just stumbled upon this photography but when I got into the page I discovered that Westword Magazine just named the photographer one of the top “instagrammers” in Denver. Now I have to follow! Maybe you should too… Instagram handle, @wilsonaxpe !

March 5th: Eat Lunch Outside

It is unbelievable how nice it has been outside in Colorado. After the extremely nice February I really thought we were going to have an extreme and snowy March.

So far, that has not been the case.

So yesterday after being at work for a while, I brought home lunch with me. I sat on the back patio at home and ate lunch outside. Very pleasant and something on the list I definitely felt I would not check off until later in the year. Now I will just have to do it more often!

February 21st: Visit a New Dog Park

Today is my dogs 8 year adoption birthday! I got her when she was two months old… she was the cutest little thing.

So eight years later I cannot imagine my life without her. So what better day to check this off my list than today?!? I found a new park just a couple miles from my house. There were no dogs there so it was kind of nice for Mia to run around, but also wish she could have had some dogs to run with…

We went to Good Times after and got a peanut butter, dog treat, ice cream sundae! Quite the birthday for the little one.

February 14th: Go on a Doggie Playdate

I think this date was maybe more for my friend Sara and I than the dogs because they did not seem too interested in each other. It was wonderful though. It was gorgeous outside so we went to a dog park close to both our houses. There is a big lake there so after letting the dogs run for a while we walked around the lake, which got my 20 minute walk in for the day.

Today marks half way to my month of no drinking, although I have a cheat day coming up so not sure if it really counts. But it has been great. Mia definitely enjoys me being home and not galavanting around.

Anyway, Happy Valentines Day to you all. I hope your day was full of love! ❤

February 11th: Explore a New Event in Town

I know it is only February but I already have golf on my mind. It has been so nice in Denver my golf buddies and I have seriously been thinking about trying to get out but it just has not happened.

Today did not help that itch because it just made me want to golf more. I never go to expos and there are SO many in Denver, all the time.

So t was nice to explore this event and actually get myself together to go.

I wanted to buy some passes but just was not prepared for which one I really wanted.

Either way, I got 50 golf balls for $25!!!

It was fun. Simple. Easy.

If you are in Denver you should check it out.

Denver Golf Expo
It runs through tomorrow.

February 9th: Explore Aromatherapy

This was definitely something on my list but suddenly has been thrown into my life and is pretty exciting.

My roommate, Tracy, bought a diffuser,

A book about essential oils,

And oils.

Tonight when I got home from work Tracy had “Citrus Bliss” going. It has some great benefits.

I am excited to start exploring this and think it could be something I explore all year long!

I am looking forward to exploring it for mental and physical benefits.

February 7th: Walk 20 Minutes Everyday for 30 Days

Well, here is another longer period challenge!

Before I moved into my current house I walked everyday, at least twice a day. I did not have a backyard, so I had to take Mia out at least that much. I have gotten rather lazy since moving into a house with a backyard over a year ago… and it is time to change that.

Mia enjoys her morning time in the backyard, often runs the fence line with the neighbor dog, and basks in the sun (when it is out and not freezing). But I know it is time to make a change, get up and moving, and make sure to take significant walks everyday.  To start that, I will be walking everyday for the next 30 days for at least 20 minutes.

Today we did FOUR miles in an hour and 20 minutes. It would have been much faster if Mia did not have to pee, poop, and smell things every 2 minutes…

In addition to this goal I just want to express that I am also doing a fundraiser called Run Ranger Run

It is a great fundraiser to help raise money for veterans. You can help veterans out too by donating to my team! Just go to CrowdRise.com choose my team “GCE – Getting Closer Everyday” and then choose me, Megan Tutin! Any donations go directly to GallantFew, a charitable organization that has the mission “To facilitate a peaceful, successful transition from military service to a civilian life filled with hope and purpose.

Our team is dedicated to run/walk/bike 565 miles by the end of February (there are 10 of us!).

Thanks for any donations. Veterans and veteran families thank you!

On a side note, I ate meat Sunday… so I guess the vegetarian run is over. But I definitely feel like I felt healthier during that time so I plan on concentrating more on eating that way, just with meat every once in a while.

Today is day 7 of no alcohol, but technically only day 6 because I took Super Bowl Sunday as a cheat day. I feel more productive… I finished knitting a baby blanket for a baby shower I am going to this week, I am almost on to my second book on my list, and I think I will be finding it easier to get up and do my walks/runs!

So far this year is shaping up to be pretty great. Making this list and actually holding myself accountable to it feels good.

February 6th: Buy Something Extravagant

How exciting! When I made my list I had no idea what this would be. But everyday as I go through my list to pick something out, one thing really sticks out… listen to a record player. Only thing is I do not own one and was not sure how I would make this happen.

So today!!!! I bought a record player.

Nothing really fancy. Or even expensive but I think it qualifies as extravagant. It is a Jensen 3-Speed Stereo Turntable with AM/FM Stereo Radio – Brown (JTA-222).

I am so excited to get it. It should be delivered by next week. Only thing to do now is buy a record… maybe I will start a collection.

February 4th: Explore a New Music Venue

Man, oh man. It was so exciting to see The Revivalists live, even more exciting that they were at a venue I had never been to.

First of all, if you have never heard of The Revivalists, look them up and listen now! They are AMAZING.

Second, it is quite unbelievable that I have never been to The Ogden. I have lived in Denver for over five years and the Ogden is one of the most popular venues… but I just never had a show that I just had to see… and I am not really a show goer unless I am REALLY into the band.

Anyway, the venue was great and the music was the best! The only bad thing I could say is that the show was 16+ and it was pretty rough being around very intoxicated, very young people. But that will not take away from the awesome experience.

My camera on my phone has a cracked lense, so I cannot get really great pictures, but here are a few I did get that turned out decent!

February 3rd: Try Kombucha

So, my ritiual on Friday nights is to finish working my double then sit down with friends, regulars, and coworkers to have some drinks. Tonight being the first Friday in a while I would not be doing this I wondered how I would spend my night. But coming home right away is kind of a relief and very relaxing to just come home.

So what am I doing with my night. First, today I am trying Kombucha. I know what some might say… it has alcohol content and I am not drinking alcohol this month, but the content is basically non-exsistent.

Now I am just going to relax, knit a little, maybe finish my first book on my list of ten, A Man Called Ove, and then head to be bed much earlier than I am used to.

Anyway, I bought Synergy Cosmic Cranberry made by GT’S. It is different. Very vinegary. People say you get used to the extreme taste of it, so I guess I will have to try more

What is kombucha? Read this Shape.com article for an explanation and a brief explanation of some of its benefits.

February 1st: No Alcohol for a Month

Here we go!

This is pretty self explanatory.

I am allowing myself two cheat days, this Sunday… because, yea, it’s Super Bowl Sunday 🏈😉. And February 21st. We have an event at work that night that is literally a beer tasting. Plus, I think with anything, giving yourself some leyway helps you actually achieve your goal better. Or I am just making up excuses to have two cheat days. Either way, who makes the rules around here? Me. So we are going with that.

Hoping to detox and save money!

January 31st: Try a New Restuarant

Hooray!!! Today marks a full month of doing one item on my list of 365 Things everyday! It has been an interesting run so far but looking back, a lot of the things have been focused on food and/or asking friends for suggestions on things.

I think it was important to do most of these in the first month because now I have great books, music, and soon recipes to experience throughout the year. Also, I’m working on scarves for all my nieces and nephews with my new found knitting skills.

I am really looking forward to February. It’s going to be more challenging than January but that is what is going to make it great.

Thanks for following me this far, I hope you continue to follow me throughout the year.

Today I visited a new restaurant I had never been to, Himchuli- Indian and Nepali Cuisine. They have a great buffet for just $10 with lots of vegetarian options.

The best part about lunch though was getting to see my old boss and good friend Kelly! We do not see each other often but when we do it is always so good to catch up.

Plus, a few of my things for the year have now been set in place after some things we talked about.

It was a great day! I am off to work. Excited for a new month and new adventures and goals to reach.
